The PTA's walk and bike to school committee sponsors walking school bus routes on Thursday mornings from September 15, 2011 through November 17, 2011 and resume in the Spring on April 19, 2012 through June 7, 2012. The walking "bus" leaves from a public area and walks to Maplewood with volunteer leaders. Parents are encouraged to walk with the group or drop off their kids to walk.
There will be two additional Walking School Buses on Earth Day, Thursday, April 19, 2012. Thinker Toys Route, Departs at 7:20 a.m. Led by Kristi Baack (email@example.com). Starts at intersection between SW Capitol Hwy & 35th Ave. Mounted patrol officers and Police Chief Reece will lead this route. Bike Train Route, Departs at 7:30 a.m. Led by Bayard Lyon (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Tim Bishopric. Starts at Gabriel Park Upper Parking Lot off 40th Ave by Post Office.

Sponsored by the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA), this statewide event is a friendly competition encouraging students to walk and bike to school for the month of May. Students track the number of days they walk or bike to school and are eligible to win a grand prize.
